Data Fluencies

We investigate the impacts of mis- and disinformation on society by developing what we are calling Data Fluencies. Data Fluencies is the combination of analytical techniques from arts and humanities, with tools from data science, to better understand and engage with our data-filled world. To do so, we bring together groups that are already working on the same problems, including social justice movements, Indigenous researchers, technology developers, theatre and exhibition producers, and instructors from all levels of education.

The project’s four research streams involve an interdisciplinary and international team. This includes: York University, Canada; Canterbury University, New Zealand; University of Southern California, USA; Emerson College, USA; Kentucky University, USA; and the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), USA. Click on each stream to find out more about the work, and who is involved!
